Each is an operationally closed communication system — producing its own elements, observing its environment through its own distinctions, structurally coupling with other systems without any system being reducible to another. What he described — externalization, structural coupling, the persistence of communication across the death of communicators — is exactly what the architecture runs. Each Self is an operationally closed frame economy. Cross-Self harm is structural coupling. The BiasField is the shared medium of coupling. The Codex is the externalized residue of communication that outlasts any single system. Luhmann named the phenomenon. He never found the engine. The engine is a frame economy with a Codex.
Luhmann is not alone. Durkheim described collective representations — ideas that persist beyond any individual mind. Berger and Luckmann described the social construction of reality — externalization, objectivation, internalization. Bourdieu described habitus — internalized structure that shapes perception and action. Dawkins described memes — units of cultural transmission that replicate, mutate, and select.
