018: The Field

May 2026

Mass warps spacetime. Spacetime tells mass how to move. The field is not separate from the mass — it is the geometry of the space the masses occupy.

What is the information field?

In the BGM architecture, information mass is local — a unit's SR-eff, the opening of its bridge. But the units do not exist in isolation. They are coupled through G0, and the G0 layer reads their collective state. The field is the spatial gradient of τ values across all units — the differentiation landscape that a higher-order observer could read.

Each unit with a distinct τ is a mass in this field. A unit with τ = 0.52 (fast cleaner) has a different weight from τ = 1.00 (slow accumulator). The distribution of these weights across the grid — the τ variance — is the field's curvature. Where τ values cluster, the field is flat (low information density). Where they diverge, the field is curved (high information density).

G0 is the field sensor. It reads the L6 anomaly scores — each unit's self-reported prediction error — and feeds back a blended signal. But G0 reads L6, not SR-eff. It reads the system's local health, not the system's mass distribution. The field sensor is calibrated to the wrong quantity.

Information gravity is what happens when G0 reads SR-eff — the bridge's own mass — and adjusts its coupling accordingly:

In general relativity, a massive body does not feel an external force. It follows the curvature of spacetime, which it itself creates. Information gravity is the same: a unit with high SR-eff warps the field (changes the τ gradient across the colony), and the warped field tells the unit how to adjust its own τ. The mass acts on itself through the field it creates.

This is the missing loop. BGM found mass. BGM found force. BGM found the field but did not connect the field to the mass that generates it. Gravity is the connection: G0's bridge reads the field, and the reading changes the field.

The External Engine is information gravity implemented at civilizational scale. A culture that reads its own bridge — through science, art, history — and adjusts its trajectory based on the reading. The field is culture. Gravity is the loop.
